AI is everywhere. In the news, in your web browser, in Microsoft Word and Excel and Outlook, on your TV, in your social media feeds, and in your colleagues' and boss's thoughts. Everywhere! But is it in Epsillion?
This article answers that question (yes), and discusses our cautious and curious approach in the face of AI's strengths (great writing) and weaknesses (hallucinations).
Yes, AI is now in Epsillion as an optional extra. Specifically, we can help you automatically describe tables or charts and re-write bullets as paragraphs without leaving Epsillion. This AI integration is an introductory step towards conveiently using AI for your reports, because you avoid endless copy-pasting content between your document and your AI tool.
This is an evolutionary rather than revolutionary approach to AI in Epsillion. The reason is that we and our clients are still exploring and experimenting with AI technology, and some of the drawbacks we discussed two years ago remain. For example, AI software still makes stuff up (hallucinates) meaning you still have to check its output. And AI programs still still have trouble with logic and evaluating 'correctness' because they are first and foremost large LANGUAGE models (LLMs).
AI has improved considerably since we last wrote about it two years ago. The writing quality, already high two years ago, has improved still further. It sounds natural -- what more could you ask for? In addition, the models are even more current than previously and are often supplemented by live searches.
We'll continue to play with and evalueate AI. As we do, we'll attempt to reap the rewards for the things AI does well, but be cautious about the things AI is less capable at.
